Outline A series of tremors occurred in Iran early morning at May 7. the strongest earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale hit the province of Fars in southern Iran at 03:31 a.m. local time (23:01 GMT); aftershock tremors are still impacting the area. At least 26 people were killed and 100 injured.

The total population of the stricken area is about 17,000 to 18,000 living in some 40 small villages. The death figure stands at 26; the number of injured at 100. The National Disaster Task Force of the Ministry of the Interior(DTF) puts the physical damage at between 40 and 100 percent in 20 villages and below 40 percent in 18 settlements. In Richi, where the damage is considered to
have been very severe,the school has totally collapsed but the medical centre is functional.The DTF estimates that over one thousand houses need
to be rebuilt. Water pipes are all damaged but are being promptly repaired. Power lines are reconnected. There is no immediate health hazard.

20 people have lost their lives and 80 have been injured. Damage is reported in 20 villages.The damage to the residential areas is between 30 and 100 per cent, and roads, electricity, water networks, medical centres and schools have been damaged.
