As disaster risks and vulnerabilities increase with flawed development
activities and the prevalence of extreme climate events, it has become
urgent to promote multi-disciplinary and inter-sectoral partnerships at
all levels which TDRM advocates for.
It has become also essential to build consensus on the need for international cooperation for disaster reduction and to determine the relative positioning of this cooperation within the general schemes of current international cooperation and development policies.
In this regard, the Asian Conference on Disaster Reduction (ACDR) 2003 was held on 15-17 January 2003 in Kobe, Hyogo, Japan as an evolutional program of the past ADRC Annual Meetings.
The ACDR was conducted in Cambodia in 2004, in Republic of Korea in 2006, in Kazakhstan in 2007, in Indonesia in 2008, in Japan in 2010, in Sri Lanka in 2011, in Japan in 2013, and 2014.
