2024/05/17 Afghanistan Flood At least 50 people are dead following a fresh bout of heavy rain and flooding that began on Friday, 17 May 2024 in central Afghanistan. The authority of central Ghor province said 2,000 houses were completely destroyed, 4,000 partially damaged, and more than 2,000 shops were under water in the capital of the province, Feroz-Koh. 2024/05/12 Viet Nam Severe Local Storm On 12-13 May 2024, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, tornadoes, and strong winds affected Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Quang Ninh, and Hanoi provinces of Viet Nam, causing severe weather-related incidents and landslides that resulted in casualties and damage. 2024/05/11 Indonesia Flash Flood Cold lava flash floods hit the West Sumatra region on the evening of Saturday, 11 May 2024. This incident was triggered by high intensity rain in the upstream area of Mount Marapi. Four districts were quite badly affected by this incident, including Agam District, Tanah Datar District, Padang Panjang District and Padang Pariaman District. As of Sunday, 12 May 2024 at 21.00 WIB, the total number of victims who died as a result of this disaster was 37 people. 2024/05/09 Afghanistan Flood Flash floods caused by heavy rains have devastated villages in northern Afghanistan, killing 315 people and injuring more than 1,600, authorities said on Sunday, 12 May 2024. 2024/05/02 Indonesia Landslide A flood and a landslide hit Sulawesi island, Indonesia, killing 14 people, officials said on 4 May 2024. Torrential rain pounding the area since 2 May 2024 triggered a landslide in Luwu district in South Sulawesi province, said local rescue chief.

The Thoughts of ADRC

ADRC was founded in 1998 in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture.
The mission is to enhance disaster resilience of its member countries, to create safe communities where people can live with peace of mind, and to create a society that enables sustainable development.
For the purpose, the ADRC is promoting the establishment of multilateral networks through personnel exchanges and a variety of other programs for disaster risk reduction in Asia.
