Torrential rain in central and southwest China until June 22 has left seven people dead and thousands displaced, the local governments said. In Guizhou Province, landslides killed four and two died when a building collapsed. As of June 16, about 150,000 residents from 21 counties in the province had been affected by the storms and floods, 4,500 had been relocated and another 4,200 are in need of government assistance. In Hunan Province, a landslide buried a house killing one and injuring another on June 22. The torrential rain, which began on June 17, had affected 225,900 people in nine counties and cities and 42,500 have been evacuated.

Rainstorms in south China since June 16 had left 18 people dead and four missing as of 9 a.m. on June 19. The storms have brought floods and landslides to the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Guizhou, and Chongqing municipality. One person in Anhui was killed by a lightning strike, three in Chongqing drowned and two buried by mudslides, while two in Guizhou were killed in building collapses. In Hubei, four were killed in building collapses, four by rockslides, one by a fallen tree and one drowned.

The cities of Nanjing, Changzhou, Wuxi and Suzhou in the nearby Jiangsu Province have also been flooded by the rains, with floodwater in Wuxi and Suzhou reaching 70 and 50 centimeters respectively. Heavy rains have been battering areas along the Yangtze River, including the provinces of Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu and the cities of Chongqing and Shanghai since june 16. The downpours have affected 798,000 people and caused an economic loss of 680 million yuan (111.2 million U.S. dollars) to the province.
