Outline On 4 February, the Government issued a State of Emergency Declaration for three departments in the north (Tumbes, Piura and Lambayeque) due to heavy rains, floods and landslides, have been occurring since 31 January.

According to local media, as of 9 February at 7.00 UTC, the death toll has reached 23 people and two more persons have been injured in the provinces of Arequipa, Chiclayo, Huancavelica, Ica, Lambayeque, Paita, Ayabaca and Lima.

As of 6 February, heavy rains, landslides (huaycos) and rivers overflowing have affected more than 70 000 persons across Peru. 22 persons have died so far, 1 105 houses have been destroyed, 54 schools and 47 health centres have been damaged, and 215 km of roads have been severely affected.

More than 170,000 people are affected by floods and landslides nationwide and over 85,000 of these people are in Lambayeque.
