Outline Mount Marapi located in the West Sumatra, Indonesia, erupted on Sunday, 3 December 2023 at around 14.54 local time. The eruption of this volcano with a height of 2,891 meters above sea level was marked by the vomiting of a column of ash containing volcanic material up to 3,000 meters from the top of the crater accompanied by a roaring sound.

The latest data as of Wednesday (6/12) at 21.00 local time, the total number of people who died reached 23 people.

BNPB 2023/12/06
The BNPB Operations Control Center (Pusdalops) reported that as of Tuesday (5/12) at 22.28 local time, the number of confirmed victims who died as a result of the Mount Marapi eruption had increased to 15 people. Meanwhile, 5 other bodies are still in the process of being identified at RSUD. With the additional victims, the number of climbers who still cannot be evacuated is 8 people.

BNPB 2023/12/05
Disaster Victim Identification Team or DVI Team has succeeded in identifying 5 people who died. Meanwhile, 18 other people are still being searched and rescued. A total of 12 other people suffered injuries. The local district government (Pemkab) appealed to residents to reduce activities outside the home.

The joint team is still searching for and assisting climbers of Mount Marapi located in West Sumatra Province. As of Monday (4/12) morning, 28 climbers were declared safe and 11 others had died.

According to ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet) of AHA Center as of 4 December 2023, 11 people have died and 26 are missing as a result of the eruption.

BNPB 2023/12/04
A total of 47 climbers were reported to have been affected by the eruption of Mount Marapi which occurred on Sunday (3/12). From data collected by the Control and Operations Center (Pusdalops) of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), 19 climbers have successfully descended and been rescued by a joint team. This means that there are still 28 climbers who have not succeeded in descending.
