Outline Japan on Wednesday, 28 August 2024 was braced for its strongest typhoon of the year as Typhoon Shanshan (No. 10) approached the southern island of Kyushu. Tens of thousands of island residents have been told to evacuate the area and transportation services were suspended as authorities warned of a "major disaster".

Two family members remain unaccounted for after their house was struck by a landslide here on 27 August in Gamagori, Aichi Prefecture. The area, in the mountainous Takenoyacho-Okugo district of Gamagori, has been drenched with heavy rain as Typhoon No. 10 slowly approaches Japan.
