Outline Hurricane Milton made landfall on the night of 9 October 2024 as a Category 3 storm near Siesta Key, on the central west coast of Florida, U.S.A., the National Hurricane Center said. Milton had sustained winds of 120 mph at landfall, but its strength diminished to Category 1 as it moved inland across the state. More than 3.2 million customers were without power in Florida early Thursday, 10 October, according to utility tracker PowerOutage.us.

At least 14 storm-related deaths were attributed to the hurricane, which made landfall south of Sarasota at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, officials said. Six of them were killed when two tornadoes touched down ahead of the storm in St. Lucie County on Florida’s central Atlantic coast.
