The death toll from a powerful mudslide in southeastern Kazakhstan rose to 28 on Monday and emergencies agency officials said 20 people were still missing.

The victims included five children and the death toll is expected to rise further. The tragedy happened in the Talgar district, east of the capital's commercial capital, Almaty.
