Internally Displaced Persons continue to be highly mobile as they move from IDP camps to Temporary Living Centres (TLCs). In the past 4 weeks more than 100 TLCs have been gradually occupied and these movements will continue in the weeks ahead. The authorities foresee that almost all IDP camps will be closed by late April.

Indonesian Vice- President Jusuf Kalla said on Monday the death toll from a tsunami that swept across the Indian ocean region could hit 10,000 in one area of his country alone.

Up to 55 people, many of them children, were killed when the tsunami swept the coast around the Bireuen regency in Aceh province, on the northern tip of Sumatra island. Bireuen lies near the town of Lhokseumawe, which was also badly hit and where 23 people were killed.
